The White Rabbit Is Very, Very Late

The White Rabbit is late

For his swimming lesson

The giants have forgotten to cry

So the river is dry

But The White Rabbit

Doesn’t know that

He’s late

The White Rabbit has misplaced

His glasses

And so he looks

And cannot find

Where the sugar bowl is

That he promised to take
To the Tea Party

But first he must go swimming

And then to have tea

And then to his job

Or the Queen will scream

And the Rabbit will have

A very bad day

The White Rabbit is fast

But time is faster

And as he runs

The clock runs ahead

And he finds himself

Lost in a place

He doesn’t know

A cat appears

But only its ears

And it tells the White Rabbit

That he’s in a place

Known as Delay

And the only way

To escape Delay

Is to try a little bit better next time

For time is a thing

That’s only what it is

In the moment that it is

And then it’s something else

And there’s no asking it

To be the thing

It used to be

‘People are very much

The same,’ says the cat

That isn’t there

But the White Rabbit

Doesn’t hear

Because he’s already racing

To get to the river

So he can swim in the tears

And then get his ears

To the tea party

Without the sugar bowl
As he promised

Because he needs a quick cup

Before he heads to work

To paint the palace red

Before the Queen gets home

From the royal dentist

Then he remembers

That he told the caterpillar

He would sit for a bit

And discuss philosophy

But where does that fit in

And before he knows it

He’s run and run

But he’s still lost

In Delay

As the White Rabbit runs

He thinks to himself

That perhaps he shouldn’t

Say ‘Yes’ to so much

As fun as it is

To have so much to do

And so many fun people

To do things with

Nobody gets much of a rabbit

If everybody gets some of him

He decides to stop running

And sit for a bit

Then takes out his handy

Notepad and pen

And writes out an apology

To everyone

He was to see today

There were no excuses

Just him letting them know

That he had tried

To do too much
And that as fast as he is

And as fastidious

He simply can’t do it all

He runs to the nearest mailbox

And mails the letters

Knowing the penguin postal service

Which delivers all over Wonderland

Will get the letters out in no time at all

Then he heads to work

And gets to work

With his bright red paint

And when the Queen arrives

She remarks that the Rabbit

Seems calmer than normal

But he still missed a spot

So off with his head...eventually

The White Rabbit smiles

Knowing his head will be safe

As the Queen never seems to have time

To behead all those she’d like to

And he thinks perhaps

He should tell her to schedule herself better

But then he thinks

That surely one day

She’ll learn that

On her own

All

In good

Time
