The Prince of Frogs found her
In a lily pad
She was a tiny human woman
In a beautiful little dress
And she was fast asleep
The Prince of Frogs woke her
Afraid that if he let her sleep
A toad would come along
And try to gobble her up
Since toads are much meaner
Than frogs are
The little woman was so pleased
That the Prince of Frogs decided to wake her
Because she had slept far too much
And needed to start her day
She told the Prince
That she was not a human at all
But a sprite
That had gotten distracted one day
Flitting about the flowers
And swimming in the pond
Soon she found herself
Far away from her spritely friends
And so she chose
To rest her eyes
And come to a decision later on
About what she should do next
For planning ahead is not something
That sprites enjoy doing very much
The Prince of Frogs showed the sprite
His special summer home
Right alongside the pond
Where he and his royal family
Stay every spring
It was there that the sprite lived
And grew to know the Prince
As he would visit her every week
And then every day
And soon the two realized
They were in love
And since spring was approaching
Both knew they had to figure out
What they wanted to do next
And so the sprite found herself
Taking more and more naps
The Prince, who very much enjoyed planning,
Knew there was no time to lose
He went to the Frog King and the Frog Queen
And told them that he wanted
To marry
They were overjoyed
Their little tadpole
All grown up
And ready to pair up
With a lovely Frog Maiden
But when he told them
That his love was not a fellow frog
But a sleepy sprite
They were not pleased at all
How could the heir
To the Amphibian Throne
Possibly think
Of marrying someone
Outside his genus?
But the Prince of Frogs
Convinced his parents
To start their spring vacation
A bit early
So they could travel to the pond
And meet his betrothed
When they got there
The sprite had set up
A delicious dinner
Of flies for the Frogs
And while it was very tasty
The King and Queen
Were still certain
That a sprite could never
Be a suitable wife
For their son
The sprite could see
That her trying was only trying to them
And so she took
A different tact
‘Would you all like to go for a ride,’
She asked the King and Queen
Unbeknownst to even her Prince
The sprite’s wings
Which had been tucked along her back
Were wide and strong
And so she could grasp not just one
But two frogs at a time
And travel with them
Through the air
And over the pond
Which is just what she did
With the King and Queen
Who ribbetted and ribbetted
With awe and marvel
As they soared high above
The reeds and willows
When the sprite set them down
The King and Queen
Kissed the sprite
On either side of her face
She had showed them
A way of looking at things
They had never even dreamt of before
And now they knew
That anything was possible
If one could simply accept
That what cannot be envisioned
Isn’t all that can exist
And so a Frog Prince can love a sprite
And so it was
And so they were married
And the sprite became
The Sprite Princess of the Frogs
And she was much beloved
By all the frog subjects
Who each got their own
Individual trip
Over the pond
For soon the sprite family
The Princess had left behind
Found her after searching for so long
And they chose to settle down
At the pond
And befriend the frogs
And soon
If you traveled to that particular pond
You could see frogs flying overhead
And it would seem magical
And that’s because
It was
