Spring

Oh, you had dinner with the king, huh?

Did you know he was the king
Or did he have to inform you?

See, they say Queen for a day, but—

It’s Kings

Kings are the ones
That come and go
With the day

What you need to understand

Sit down for a second
Relax

Nobody’s rushing anybody
Out of anywhere

It’s Spring, isn’t it?

Isn’t it Spring?

So where are we going?

The world’s slowing down
We don’t need to speed it up

Anyhow Kings—

They get made in a day
And they get tossed in a day

And every King thinks he’s going to be the one
To stick it out

So he sits across from you
At lunch
Or whatever

And he’s got his arms crossed
And he’s nodding his head at you
And he wants to know
What you want
From him

And you’re just sitting there
Thinking—

You weren’t shit yesterday
What happened?

What happened was
Somebody got a little bit of luck
And all of a sudden
There’s the crown
And there’s the thing—

The, uh—

The scepter

And there’s the ring
You better kiss
If you need something
From him

I know about it
Oh trust me
I know all about it

You don’t want to know
How many Kings I’ve sat across from
And how many times
I've wanted to say—

Unfold your arms
When you sit in front of me
Or I’ll wait until you’re down
And then I'll kick the shit out of you

...But I didn’t

I just let them have their moment

Because you don’t push somebody
Out of their spotlight
Even if they won’t let you stand in it
With them

You gotta just let ‘em have it
And hope they got a good spirit
And a good sense of humor
About their good, you know, that word again—

Luck

Even if you’re the unluckiest bastard in the world
You’re going to get at least a handful
Of good luck in your life

And when it comes
You better sit down
And enjoy it

And you better break bread
With somebody
Who’s going to let you enjoy it

You better spread it around
And hide it
In as many places
As you can

Because that’s the only way
You’re going to get some of it back
When you need it

You got to treat it like Spring

Like you never had it before
And you’ll never have it
Again
