Christopher may have been a cat
But he was never curious
Things would happen
And Christopher would show
Little to no interest in them at all
Christopher would wake up
And the first thing he’d do
Every single morning
Was mind his own business
People would whisper around him
Rumors and gossip
Would swirl near his pointed ears
And he would continue on
Eating his Kyle Kotter’s Kitty Kibble
The superior brand of cat food
That his wonderful owners
Christine and Chris bought him
Mysterious things would happen
Things would go missing
Then reappear
Then disappear again
And Christopher was never curious
He was never curious so often
That everyone around the neighborhood
Began calling him
Christopher, The Never Curious Cat
Like a dog that doesn’t like playing fetch
Or a bird that doesn’t enjoy flight
People are often fascinated by something
Or someone
That doesn’t behave
The way others think they should
Even if it’s a better way of behaving
Some would say that not being curious
Can have its downsides
And Christopher would agree with that
There were times where he wished
He could be more curious
But not being curious sometimes meant
Not being aware of your surroundings
Christine and Christian would often tell Christopher
That he should take a look around more often
And Christopher tried his hardest
But when he did
He found himself seeing things
That others did not want him to see
Or hearing things that people
Did not want him to hear
Christopher the Never Curious Cat
Who was somewhat curious now
Learned that many people have things
They’d rather we not know about them
And while these things are not always bad things
They are private things
And Christopher felt strange learning private things
Like the fact that Petra the Parakeet likes to hoard
A little bit of her birdseed
In case she wants a snack late at night
Or that Danny the Dog is terrified of fire hydrants
And avoids them as much as he can
Christopher the Now Curious Cat
Even managed to figure out
Where all the missing items were going
And it wasn’t much of a mystery at all
Because it turns out that Christian
Was sleepwalking
Throwing things out
And then Christine was taking them out of the trash
Every day before making herself coffee
And not saying anything about it
Because it’s very rude to make sleepwalkers
Feel bad about what they do
When they’re sleepwalking
Christopher was up one night
On the roof of his house
Both his owners asleep
And Christian now trying
A new technique to prevent himself
From sleepwalking
That involves sleeping in a hammock
In the living room
And Christopher was wondering
If he should continue to be curious
Or to go back to being not curious
An owl landed next to Christopher
And owls are known to be very wise
But not all that curious
Although this particular owl
Was not all that wise
But very friendly
And he asked Christopher
Why a cat would be out on a roof
On a warm summer evening
Christopher explained
His predicament
And the owl
Who was not very wise
Felt sad that he couldn’t offer some wisdom
So he offered to sit with Christopher instead
And Christopher thought that sounded nice
Because he had never sat with an owl before
And so the two sat together
And looked out over a neighborhood
All the houses with lights on
And some without lights on
Where many things were happening
Most of which neither Christopher nor the owl
Would ever know about
And both were fine with that
In that moment, Christopher became
A little less curious
And the owl became a little wise to the fact
That sitting with a cat can be a lovely experience
And somewhere Petra was enjoying a little snack of birdseed
And nobody knowing about it
Made it taste even better
