A Little Girl Meets A Wolf

A little girl
Meets a wolf
And the wolf

Asks where she’s going

And the little girl says--

None of your business

And the little girl

Skips away

And the wolf

Not wishing to eat

A rude little girl

Returns to the forest

And feasts

On an abandoned house

Made of shortbread

Skip back, now

Skip back

A little girl

Meets a wolf

And the wolf

Says ‘Hello’

And the girl says ‘Hi’

And the wolf tells the girl

That he knows where she

Can pick a basket

Full of the loveliest strawberries

And the little girl says--

Strawberries give me a rash

The girl skips away

The wolf goes looking

For a few foolish pigs

Skip back, now

Skip back

A little girl

Meets a wolf

And the wolf

Guesses

That she’s on her way

To see her grandmother

And the little girl says--

Yes, I am

So the wolf offers

To take her there

And the little girl says--

That would be nice

But my grandmother

Is half-tiger

And tigers don’t like wolves

Very much

The wolf hears the word ‘tiger’
And runs, runs, runs away

Skip back, now

Skip back

A little girl
Meets a wolf

And they stand

Staring at each other

Facing off

The girl trained by her mother

An experienced artist

Of the martial arts

And the wolf

A wolf

They lunge at each other

Flying into the air

Fists poised

Claws sharpened

Ready for a battle

That was always meant to--

Skip back, now

Skip back

A little girl

Meets a wolf

And the wolf is friendly
And the little girl pets the wolf

And the wolf follows the little girl

To her grandmother’s house

And her grandmother is not half-tiger

And the wolf is welcomed for dinner

And ends up becoming

A colleague of the little girl

And a trusted friend

For all the days of her life

Skip back, now

Skip back

A little girl

Meets a wolf

And the little girl sneezes

And the wolf says ‘Gesundheit

And the little girl says ‘Thank you

And both go on their way

Skip back, now

Skip back

A little girl

Meets a wolf

But the wolf isn’t there

He’s somewhere else

But who knows where?

She goes on her way

But feels quite strange

At whatever it was

That was supposed to happen

When it didn’t

Or couldn’t

Or didn’t

That time

Skip back, now

Skip back

A little girl

Meets a wolf

And the little girl smiles

And says, never having seen

This wolf before

Nice to see you again

And the wolf

Wants to skip, skip, skip back

To wherever it is

That wolves

Come from

But won’t

Can’t

Didn’t

Doesn’t

Not this time

Anyway
