Was That This Year?

(A game show set.)

TRACY: We're back with America's favorite game show--'Was That This Year?" The game where people try to guess if something happened this year or a hundred years ago. Our first contestant is Natalie. Hi Natalie.

NATALIE: My name is Lola.

TRACY: Okay, whatever. I'm going to read you an event that might have happened this year or a hundred years ago, and you have to tell me which one it is.

NATALIE: That sounds pretty easy.

TRACY: One would think. Let's begin--The Taal Eruption. Affected thousands of people. This year or a hundred years ago?

NATALIE: Uh, well, I feel like I would have heard about a volcano erupting, so I'm going to say--a hundred years ago? TRACY: Nope. This year.

NATALIE: Okay, well I don't know much about lava, so...
TRACY: Next up--The ambassador to France calls our President 'a non-factor in governance.'

NATALIE: This year.

TRACY: Sounds logical, but it actually happened in 1920 when Wilson's wife had to take over when he suffered a blood clot.

NATALIE: Wow, that sounds scary.

TRACY: Actually, she did a great job and we probably should have kept her and never let a man do anything again. Here's the next one--

NATALIE: Okay.

TRACY: The government confirms aliens are real.

NATALIE: Wait, that happened?

TRACY: It did. Nobody cared, but it did.

NATALIE: Uh--maybe a hundred years ago and that's why I don't--

TRACY: Wrong! This year.

NATALIE: Was that when I was on a social media break? I did it for two hours and when I came back, I found out my mom was remarried.

TRACY: Can't get off the Internet, Natalie. It'll punish you every time.

NATALIE: Should I re-download LinkdIn?

TRACY: Before you do that, we're going to get personal and more challenging all at the same time. We're going to ask you about events that either happened this year or last year? NATALIE: Oh no.

TRACY: Oh yes. Here we go--

NATALIE: Please don't ask about my cousin's--

TRACY: When did your cousin have her baby? This year or last year? NATALIE: Last year?

TRACY: This year.

NATALIE: UGH!

TRACY: Wrong. When did your father get that haircut you didn't like? NATALIE: This year.

TRACY: It was four years ago.

NATALIE: I feel like we teased him about that for a long time though.

TRACY: You probably did. When did your sister break up with her boyfriend? NATALIE: Which boyfriend? TRACY: Darren.

NATALIE: Darren was that recent? TRACY: You're thinking of Mike.

NATALIE: Mike was the one with the weird tooth? TRACY: No, that's Darren.

NATALIE: Darren would've been last year.
TRACY: Incorrect! This year. And three years ago when they first dated.

NATALIE: God, I'm bad at this.

TRACY: You'll have to chance to get some points back when we return from commercial, Natalie. It's our lighting round entitled--When Did That Movie Come Out? NATALIE: Uh--

TRACY: We'll see you in a few!

End of Play
