Bogger the Elf
Likes making dolls
When the elves
Were learning
Their toy-making skills
Bogger was assigned
To the trucks
And the cars
And other things
That Timothy the Head of Production
Classified as “Toys for Boys”
Blogger raised his hand
And explained to Timothy
That all kinds of children
Love cars and trucks
Not just boys
Timothy rolled his eyes
And told Bogger
To get on the line
And start assembling wheels
And painting petite car doors
And hoods
And polishing little mirrors
But Bogger asked
If he could join
The doll line instead
“Bogger,” said Timothy,
“You are a boy elf
So you make boys toys
And dolls are for girls
So we have the girl elves
Making them”
Timothy held up a doll
With pretty blonde curly hair
And said--
“The easiest way to remember
Is curls are for girls
And cars are for Lars”
Timothy was thinking of Lars in Sweden
The world’s most famous
Car-loving boy
Bogger found this argument
Very confusing
But he didn’t want to break
Timothy’s rules
So he took his place
On the car and truck line
And soon, it was clear
That he had no talent
For toy automobiles
There would always wind up
Being too few wheels
Or too many
And when a truck came down the line
With the windshield wipers
On the back fender
Timothy called for a meeting
With his most troublesome elf
“Bogger,” he said, “Do you feel hate
Making cars and trucks THAT much?”
Blogger thought this over
And then said--
“No, it’s not that I hate making
Cars and trucks
I don’t hate making any toys
For children
I just like the idea of making dolls
So much more”
Well, that settled it
Timothy the Head of Production
Remembered when he was a young
Toy-making elf
And all he wanted to make
Was puzzles
But he had been put
On the board game line
When Tom-Tom the Head Elf
Saw how unhappy he was
He let Timothy switch to jigsaws
And soon, he was the happiest elf
In the toy shop
Timothy realized
It wasn’t his place
To tell an elf
What kind of toys to make
Or who those toys
Should be for
He sent Bogger
To work on the doll line
And soon
The dolls coming down
The conveyor belt
Were the most beautiful
That any of the elves
Had ever seen
Even Santa remarked
On the high quality
As he loaded his sacks
Into the sleigh that year
For his Christmas ride
“Who’s making all these
Lovely dollars,” asked Santa
As he pulled in
The last bag
“Bogger,” said Timothy
Santa almost fell
Out of his sleigh
“A boy elf made these dolls,” he asked
Timothy nodded
And Santa grinned
“That’s wonderful,” Santa said,
“Tell him he did a very good job”
Then Santa flew off
And Timothy walked back
To his cabin
Holding the doll
Bogger had surprised him with
Earlier that night
It was a miniature version
Of Timothy himself
And it had the most beautiful smile
Painted on its face
The smile made Timothy smile
And he kept on smiling
All the way home
