Princess Moontalk talks to the Moon

And every evening

At the stroke of midnight

The most beautiful orb in the sky

Transforms into a beautiful blue lady

And floats down to Moontalk’s bedroom

So the two of them
Can have a conversation

About her day

Princess Moontalk usually saves

A little bit of dessert from dinner

And offers it to the Moon

Because the Moon does love

A tasty snack

Like a cookie from the castle chef

Or an apple

From the apple tree

That was once Princess Moontalk’s sister

Princess Moontalk sometimes

Gets very nervous during the day

Because she thinks that people

Are upset with her

Or that they’ve stopped liking her

And while it doesn’t make much sense

It’s hard for her to tell herself

That it isn’t real

That’s why when the Moon comes to visit

She goes through every moment of her day

When she felt bad or nervous

And the Moon listens to her

And doesn’t tell her

That she’s wrong

But assures her

That it is very unlikely all those people

Are upset with her

And if they are

They will have to come tell her

To make it better

But there’s nothing else

She can do

But just keep being herself

A very kind and loving princess

Then she reads Princess Moontalk

A bedtime story

Tucks her

And sails back into the sky

One night it was very foggy out

And Princess Moontalk

Could not see the Moon

And because it was so foggy out

The Moon did not feel safe

Coming down

For her nightly visit

But that had been a very bad day

For Princess Moontalk

Because she was sure

That one of her friends

Was indeed mad at her

And she didn’t know

What to do

Then she remembered

That she’d spent every night

For years and years

Talking out her problems

With the Moon

And so that’s what she did

Even though it was only

Her talking to herself

Once she was finished

She read herself a story

And tucked herself in
And she found that

While she missed the Moon

She did feel better

Doing all the things

She would normally do

When the Moon was there

The next night

There was no fog

And the Moon came down

For a visit

To check on Princess Moontalk

“I was very afraid,” said the Moon,

“Because I didn’t know how you would do

Without me here”

Princess Moontalk told the Moon

About how things were okay

Without her there

Because she remembered

What to do

And how to make herself feel better

The Moon smiled and gave Moontalk
A kiss on her forehead

And told her

That she was very proud

Of the tiny princess

Because part of growing up

Means taking the things we learn

About taking care of ourselves

From our friends and family

And doing them on our own

Princess Moontalk was very proud of herself as well

Because she never knew

She could do all that

Until she had to

“The best gift you could give me,” said the Moon

“Is letting me know that if I’m not here

You’ll still be all right”

Princess Moontalk asked the Moon

If that meant she would be leaving soon
And the Moon told her

That she would be around

For a very long time

But that on foggy nights

It was good to know
