Your Love at Noon

Your love at noon
Doesn’t get me
To work on time

Your love at noon
Sits me in a dark room
And says ‘Stay here’
And I do

Your love at noon
Barricades me
Under covers
And does my laundry for me
While I sip sweet iced tea
And ask you for favors
You won’t do

What time is it?
Is it noon? It feels like noon

Your love at noon
Is a bad folk song
I wrote and then deleted
From my phone

Your love at noon
Parades me
Around the room
For paying spectators
Who want to nick a name
Or two and you--

You got me loving you
At noon
At night
All night
Every night

Hanging me out in a basket
Like a hot air balloon
Asking me for rides
When your love hits

Big city whiskers
Growing out of your chin
And two pairs of suspenders
A buck and a safety pin

Your love at noon
Makes me take
One sick day
Then two

And you?

You got love
Whenever you want it

Whenever you care
To pick it up

Here’s me stuck
In a deep deep bed
Trying to get over my
Deep blue red

Lost but not losing
Choosing to see you
Fall back
On hard times
You wish were harder

Empty larders
Cracked grins
Double points
Double chins

Getting older ain’t for us
So we trouble tick tock
All over the old grey
City bus

What time is it?
Is it noon?

Is it coming?
Is it coming soon?

You got me so mixed up
I’m spouting poems
That ain’t too good
But you should remember
That I never said
I was anything close
To special

Bought me a dog
To see what I could take care of
And I gave it to my sister
As a birthday gift

Bow still tied around its neck
And that dopey grin

You want me to be a clock
That tells time
And tells it right

But it’s pitch black out
And I’m still saying--

Good morning
Goodnight

And you don’t want to give me love
Unless it’s noon

So what time is it?

I just want to know
When I get
To love you again

And I’ll just keep sitting here
Until then

Is it noon?
Can it be?
Can it be noon?

And if it’s not

Can it be soon?
