When We Think We're Alone

When we think we're alone
We go into head space
Times five
Eleven
Into the overhead
Going going
Back to center
Around
To the green
Finally, to the green

When we think we're alone
We're nasty individuals
With bad habits
That don't leave marks
Or scars
Or separation
Or cause us to break appointments
And we can function
Decompressing ourselves

When we think we're alone
We're verbose
Spouting coffee
And conflicting arguments
At the invisible people
Across the table from us
At all-night sit-in fuck-a-thons
At houses belonging to strangers

When we think we're alone
We read compulsively
Bite our nails
Bite other people's heads off
Bite into cake
And forget our promise
To keep our mouths shut

When we think we're alone
We fuck other people's girlfriends
And we know those people
And we love those people
And we don't give a shit
That we're hurting those people

When we think we're alone
We look at porn
And jerk off
And feel good
For five seconds

When we think we're alone
We mourn the fact
That fireworks
Are no longer illegal

When we think we're alone
We make tattoos out of bic ink
And cover our bodies with them

When we think we're alone
We're right

We're alone
