We Forgot About Sex, or Easter Candy

We forgot about sex

We just...forgot about it

It’s not that we don’t like it
We like it
I think
I don’t know
I’m sure, individually
We like it
Or still like it

What I mean to say is
It’s been awhile
Since we’ve...had it

So…

I’m sure if we did have it
We’d like it

It’s…

It’s like a bag of Easter candy
Sitting on top of the refrigerador

It’s not that we don’t like Easter candy
We love Easter candy
But…

It’s all the way on top of the fridge
Like, it’s not that...accessible?

Like--we’d really have to work for it?

And, uh, it’s like--

When do you eat Easter candy?

I mean, there was probably a point
Probably, you know, Easter
When it made sense to eat it
But now--?

It just never seems like the right time

And we’re like--

Gee, maybe we should just wait
Until next Easter

And, like, that seems kind of funny
But not really
Because we’re starving
And we still don’t want
The Easter candy

And, you know, it’s funny
Because there was a time
In our lives
When we would eat Easter candy
Whenever
For no reason
Just because we wanted to

We would just gobble up
That Easter candy
But now--

It’s like…

It’s been up there
For so long

Like--who even knows
If it’s still good?

Like--would we still enjoy it?

I mean…

We don’t want to throw it out
That would--

That would seem like a waste
Because, you know
It could still be good but…

But the truth is
We’re never going to eat it

And--

And I think we both know that

I think--

I think we’ve accepted that, and, um
You know
There are other things to--

To eat

Things that are just as, uh, satisfying
More satisfying, actually
If you think about it

But, like, every time we go in the kitchen
There’s the Easter candy
Staring down at us

And, uh, we’re just not sure
What to do about it
You know?

And one day
One of us will die
And then the other one will die
Or we’ll both die in bed
Together
And someone will come along
And clean out our house
And they’ll see the Easter candy
And think nothing of it

They’ll just toss it out

And how nice for them

How nice that they never have to know

How complicated
That candy is
