In the Event That You're Wrong

In the event that you're wrong
You will have learned a few lessons
A lesson about judgment
A lesson about prioritizing
A lesson about cost
Lessons

You will have learned
That it's much smarter
To overestimate someone
And make amends
Than to assume
That in the long winding road of life
You will never need anything
From that person again
Or something that only that person
Can give you

You will have learned
That it's wise to be a lenient person
To be flexible
To be forgiving
To be forward-thinking
Than to assume there's a mistake
You'll never make

Want to make a time capsule?

Write down all the mistakes
You think you're never going to make
Put that list in a box
Bury in somewhere
Then dig it up in forty years
And see that you made your first mistake
Before the dirt even hit the box

You assumed

Never assume

In the event that you're wrong
You will potentially have cost yourself
Any number of helpful things

Friendship
Bail money
Party invitations
Jobs
A shoulder to cry on
Opportunity
Good karma

A big pile of potential
Just waiting to be realized

In the event that you're wrong
If nothing else
You will have been wrong
You will have taken a stand
And been wrong

And though there's nothing wrong
With being wrong
Being sure that you're not wrong
Is worse than unforgivable
It's unfixable

Consider this
Just consider it
