The Lollipop Man

Here's a little tip
From your favorite
Neighborhood
Candy maker

Don't fall in love
With the lollipop man

Don't know who I'm talking about?

You will
You will

He's the guy you meet
And before you know it
You're trying to get back one layer
Just one layer on him
To see if there's anything sweeter
Underneath the surface

Something that won't turn your tongue blue

But what do you know

One layer down
And it's still the same sweetness
But there's less of it
Because the lollipop
Shrinks

So you think to yourself
Well I'll get down to another layer
I'll find a finesse in him
That's non-existent
Unless you're diligent
And willing to dig for it

So you lick
And you lick
And you start to see core
And you get excited
And you keep licking

Even though the sweetness
Has given way
To the bitter taste
Of finish

The taste of sad satisfaction
Like when you finish a good book
With a lousy ending

And the only reason you keep going
Is because you've been licking this damn lollipop man
For so long
You might as well complete the course

And finally there you are
With a stick in your hand
And schmutz on your face
And a sick feeling in your stomach
Even though it was just a lollipop

That's the man you want to avoid
The kind of man who leaves you with nothing
But a stick in your hand
And a dissolving color on your tongue

You meet a man like that, honey
You better run
