Sex in the Great Pyramid

They make love in the Lower Chamber
Which was never finished
Because there wasn't any time
After pharaoh died

And it was only an entrance way
Into a place nobody was ever meant to enter

They would go there
Into the pit cut into the floor
Where the tomb was supposed to be
Until the pharaoh decided
He would like to be higher up
Perhaps to have an easier time ascending

They would go there
And he would draw an outline of her body in the sand
Then lay her down into it
While she laughed and called him playful names

They would make love in the Queen's Chamber
Amidst the hanging jewels
Upon the chests of treasures
Necklaces getting tangled up around their bodies
Him kissing rubies that fell down her chest
Like a stream through the desert

Sometimes he would forget
Which parts were skin
And which parts were the gems

She would ask him if he wanted to leave
And he would say 'No'
But secretly he missed the sunlight
And the fresh air
And the possibility of life
Extended beyond a few months

She would treat their sessions with abandon
Grabbing his hands and pressing his fingernails
Into the sides of her body
Until little lines of blood appeared

He couldn't tell if she liked being hurt
Or liked being reminded
That she was still capable of being hurt

She was worried that within the chambers of a god
You are considered a part of the Afterlife
And so how is one to know
If you're dead or alive?

And so they make love

When the plague swept through the pyramid
And the guards died, and then the maidens
They were the only two left
The boy and the girl

At first they prayed
And then they wept
And then they screamed at the dead
And then they died
And shortly after that
They made love in the Grand Gallery

Their screams were a mix
Of passion and angst
And they could hear their voices
Going up into the high ceilings
Only to land back on them
A few moments later

The night they died
They made love in the King's Chamber

She took her place upon him
And using a knife with a golden handle
She drove it into his heart
Watching his eyes get wider
Rather than close, as she thought they might

The plan was for her to take his life
And then her own
But she found that when she brought the knife
To her own breast
Her weakness overtook her
And instead she rocked back and forth on him
Asking for forgiveness

Asking for someone to come
And finish what she started

She laid down next to him
And imagined they were not themselves
But already living their next lives
And she felt a strange desire
For the both of them to be men
So that she could have a man's strength

She put her head down on his chest
And as she feels the blood
Run down past her cheek
She takes a breath
And feels calm

She closes her eyes
And she sees the heaven she imagined
Resting right outside the pyramid
Hidden beyond the swollen doors
That house only death

She sees their heaven
And it's cool and light
