When You Wake Up

When you wake up
I will be a regret

I will be a bad decision
Made on a bad night
In the shadow of a bad break-up
With someone you loved in a way
You could never love me

When you wake up
The coconut flavored kisses
Grabbed at on fire escapes
At parties across the city
Hosted by people
Neither one of us know
Will become sour on your lips
And evolve into slight tingling
By the time you hop on the train

When you open your eyes
I'll be sitting on the edge of the bed
Debating putting on socks
Even though there's snow on the ground
Because we were up until 5am
Running our hands over each other
Photographing each other
With our short-term memories

I'll be sitting on the edge of the bed
Hoping to feel you kiss my shoulder
Or lightly graze my arm with your fingers
Or pull me back down into bed
And ask me to call out sick from work

But you won't

When you wake up
I'll become quickfire
Of jumbled senses

I'll become denim
And cologne
And a watch
And fingertips
And a subway stop
And Saturday

And now Sunday...

Sunday doesn't feel as good as Saturday
Does it?

When you wake up
I'll go sit by the window
And listen to you sneak out quietly
Hoping I won't mind

And I don't

I really don't
