The Life You Started

There were good intentions
There were plans for breakfast
There were actions
Unmotivated by personal gain

This was the life you started
This is where you left off

Now you don't wanna clean up your own messes
Now you don't wanna admit to your faults
Now you don't wanna say wanna
Because you'll sound dumb
Because you wanna be a classy speaker
With a classy look
And trashy ambitions

This was not the plan
This was not who you wanted
To become

Sitting in an apartment by yourself
Willing yourself to do anything
That would constitute productivity

Rolling yourself up in bed
Trying to pretend the morning's not gone
That the day's not wasted
That you can still make the best of it

Every part of you aches
When you look back at old photos
Photos of old friends
Of great times
When you were still among the good

There was a life there
That was the life you started

How did you get so far off track?
How did you wind up here?
And why don't you go back?

Finish what you started
