You Can't Give Away Your History

You can break all your mirrors
And pile dust on your books
The diaries listing the histories
And the mistakes inlaid in them

You can erase all your notches
And blotch over all your bad interpretations
Letting hesitation pause you for a moment
Before your claws dig into your past

You can last past the morning
When the breakfast dishes pile up
And the dirt clings to the dishes
Like small fishes to sharks

You can park yourself in the last spot available
Consider yourself unassailable to the attacks from foes
Whose woes were brought on by you
And only you, just you

You can apologize for years
And the tears from your eyes will be ignored
Though considered surprising
There won't be any 'realizing' things will be different
This time around

You can give your sorry's
Sincere as they may be
They won't get in deep enough
To buff out the dents you've made
And the unpaid bills
And the still bruised skin
That never healed

You can feel how you want to feel
Say what you wanna say
But a lifetime of mistakes is a not a chalkboard
You can simply erase

You can't give away your history
And even if you could
Who would want it?

Well?

Would you?
