Timing

I met you ten years ago
Right?
I remember a party with tuxedos
I remember wanting to be asked to leave
I’ve always wanted to be called out of a party
Due to a matter of pressing importance
Shoes that make sounds
Clacking down a hallway
Towards importance
But instead I sipped punch
I drank
I drank too much
I stumbled out into the night
And you were there
Standing as if by a horse and carriage
But really just a car with what seemed to be a flat tire
I offered to share a cab with you
You said, Sure
We rode off to your house
Where we stayed
For three days
While it rained
And on the fourth day
There was light
Sun
I left
Five years go by

And here we are
