Living in the Cliche

Wake up, Wesley
Wake up now
We need to talk

No, it cannot wait
I just realized
God, I just--
I just figured it out
It just hit me

We are living the cliche

No, no, no
This isn't like that time
Where I was wrong

I am right about this

We are living in the cliche

Do you realize what we did tonight?
Today, this afternoon
This evening
Do you know what we did?

We got up, we got coffee
We went to your mom's
We ate hot dogs off the grill
We came home, we napped
We got up, we made dinner
We watched a movie we'd seen before
We laughed at the parts we already knew would be funny
We were tired at nine o'clock
And we went to bed

And it's...a fucking...Saturday

Wesley, this is not good

We are living in the cliche

We are not eighty
We are not married
We are not physically disabled

There is no excuse
For today

Don't tell me it was lovely
Lovely we can have
When we're old

We're young now

We're supposed to be climbing mountains
We're supposed to be sky-diving
We're supposed to be crazy!

There is nothing crazy
About watching Gosford Park
For the seventh time!

We own Gosford Park
We can watch it whenever we want
Today we watched it on television
With commercials
When we could have just popped it into the DVD player

Are we actually interested in the commercials now?
Do they add something to the movie-watching experience?
Have our arteries actually turned to stone, Wesley?

We have to do something
And not sleep
We are not going back to sleep
Until something is done about this

Sleep means more time wasted
It means life is going by
And we have our eyes closed

And it's wasteful
It's just wasteful

As long as we're awake
And it's 4am
We're not the cliche

Everyone else is asleep
Everyone else is locked into their mediocrity
But we're raging against it, Wesley

That's the first step to change
The first step is being awake
So stay awake with me, Wesley

Please, stay awake with me
