You Love Him Because He's Leaving

You love him because he's leaving
Because in three months
He won't be here
He won't have time
To get to know more
Than three months worth of you

You love him because you have good reason
To avoid fighting
To avoid messiness
To avoid anything that happens
In a real relationship
Because he's leaving

You love him because he's a vacation
That allows you to stay where you are
And not have to go too far
Because when you come back
He won't be here

He's leaving

You love him because he won't ask too much of you
Because why do something silly like that
Why learn facts that'll just upset you
When you're better off taking the top layer
And playing the first card dealt

He melts your heart with how little he needs you
And believes you when you say
That you've never felt this way
And he won't stay around to see the next boy
You managed to persuade
To be your seasonal mate

You love him because he takes what you give
He lives for the moments and not for the years
And you even get the Hallmark card tears
When you finally say good-bye
And cry just until the car
Drives out of sight

Am I right?

And you criticize me
For how and who I love
And the ups and downs
Of my reality

Yet you love him because he's leaving

And he never gets
That actually
You're always the one
Who leaves
